Top Rod Series!!!
Written by eddie
(as published in the Natchez Democrat)

For years several bass tournament circuits passed through this area competing on our lakes and Old Rivers. We had anglers from all over Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana casting for high payouts and accumulating points in each event that lead to a two day championship offering a fully rigged boat and/or a lot of cash. Around the year 2000 the circuits stopped coming here. That was about the time the area largemouth bass population was falling off. The protected slot length was removed from Lake Concordia, the largemouth bass virus killed a lot of fish and we had a two year drought. Our lakes bass population has slowly rebounded thanks to the many sportsmen and ladies practicing catch and release. We still have a few>>>>>>

HUGE Turnout at the Classic!!!
Written by eddie
We're in the Legend Boats booth located at the entrance. What a great location! All that came to the show had to walk past us. For hours our booth was packed. We have a "military only" special designed Alpha 199DCX on display. OD green and tan. See pics on our Facebook page...Fine looking rig that only guys in the military can purchase. Can see pics now on Facebook: Eddie's Marine and/or Eddie Roberts. We were here in 2009 when a record 137,000+ plus people showed. Spoke/w the girls at the entrance with the counters this eve. They said after tomorrow this will probably break the 2009 record meaning an amazing>>>>150,00-170,000 came to this years Classic. More later. Bad net connection in this motel, Have some good pics I'll post Monday on Facebook and www.eddiesmarineandtacklde.com. This poor old site is so wore out. Can't post pics anymore but hate to do away with it. Lots of memories on this site. Had we not been hacked, the counter would now exceed one million visits!!! Was hacked at 590,000 and now it's back up to whatever the counter below reads...May try another 'fix' and keep this site going. One more day and I can go home.....Ready to>>>>fish<<<

BASSMASTERS CLASSIC

The practice talk was not good but that was~~talk. It's Thursday now and the big show will cast off in the morning...Those Red River bass are not lake fish. They move and they move fast. The Red is about 3 feet below flood stage and falling slow. That's just what I would order if I was fishing the river this weekend. Makes it easy to get way back and way back is where the mix is at and where the bass are headed...Red water to stained water to clear water. This is a jig pitchers tournament and soft plastics like the Biffle Bug, Craws and other beavers and creatures....Some spinnerbaits. Square bill bite may work but the mats are busted up and junks floating everywhere. It'll be tough to crank in the junk. Packing up..Spending 3 days in the Legend booth at the Outdoor show which is indoors. Dang I hate missing this weekend....Been waiting on 57-60 degree water and that's what we'll have Saturday...Probably...I'll be back! LOL!

Roberts Wins/Maples 2nd/Bruin
Written by eddie
02-18-02 The Hawg Hunters tackled Lake Bruin on a day that ranks pretty high among one of the wettest days I've fished. Not the wettest but almost. It wasn't really bad since it wasn't cold and the fish went stupid for some. It just rained...then rained some more. It was a strange day. Only 2 limits were weighed in. I had 1st w/15.88 and big bass. Thought I might place 3rd or so but not win it...Shawn Maples had 2nd w/12 and some change. 3rd was only 4 pounds! That's crazy! I culled through 25 bass or so to get 5 decent fish. Male fish were up....One to 3 feet deep and eating a Bif Bug up... Fought the wind to do it and that was work...but fun fishing in a side-ways rain....You>>

Thanks to All That Fished My Dad's Memorial
Written by eddie

Y'all don't what it means to us to have such a fine outstanding group of fishermen and ladies fish this event each year in memory of my Dad. God bless you all!!! In 26 years I have had only one small gripe and that didn't amount to anything. A very special thank you to George Prince, Robby Roberts, Coach Charlie Ruggs and all that helped me get these fish weighed and back in the lake alive. I'm a fanatic about keeping fish alive and we usually have a 100% live release during this event. We lost 4 bass after release to the bends. I will start packing a needle to release the air from the bladder of fish caught from deep water. It's rare to catch many fish that get the bends but we had some this year and I had 17 pounds in early January during another tournament from 27 feet of water that got the bends.

Stats on the Memorial Event
Written by eddie

Amazing at the fish caught considering such a tough day. Once again Lake Bruin proves to be the very best lake in this area. 76 Teams/152 contestants. Large crowd at weigh-in.

236 bass weighed in (all alive). Total weight 583.49 pounds!!!! AMAZING considering the conditons. Some chose not to weigh that had 2, 3 or 4 fish....45 five bass limits! Average weight: 2.47 pounds.Ten bass over 4 pounds. Largest 5.69, 5.50, 4.87, 4.70, 4.65, 4,32, 4.12, 4.06, 4.03, 4.01

All fish weighed were alive..Four bass died after release. Examined those four fish. They had the bends. Came from deep water. Air bladder was full. All 4 were females loaded with eggs. That means the sows were>>>DEEP!

Winning patterns: The norm for this event. Some of the winning fish came from 3 to 5 feet but most culled by fishing in 19 to 21 feet. Winners John May of Calhoun, LA/Joe Dycus of Monroe.

Winning Lure: Jigs with Zoom, Zoom Brush Hawgs, and other soft plastics. I have another shipment of Elk River jigs coming this week as well. Still have about 200 in stock now...More A-Rigs coming too. I caught two bass on the A-Rig while messing around waiting for the weigh-in. I'm hooked. I'll have more in stock this week...
